How to Get the Most Out of Conferences

As I’ve mentioned in the mission statement for Catch Careers – it is not just about me sharing information, but asking questions and starting discussions on topics relevant to young professionals.

So here is a discussion topic: How to Get the Most Out of Conferences.

I’ll be attending my first real official professional grown-up conference in September. How should I prepare? How should I behave? How can I start conversations with strangers? What should I avoid doing? And on and on and on….

Leave comments here or connect on Twitter with your ideas, and let’s begin a disucssion. @ChristinaKach #ConferenceTips

  1. Christina,

It’s important to remember that everyone else is there for the same purpose as you – to learn and meet people. No one will think you are weird for striking up a conversation with them at a conference.

Some easy openers are: “How do you like the conference so far?” “What was your favorite session?” “What brings you to this conference?” or just “What do you do?”

Bring lots of business cards, and make sure you have a place to put the ones you collect.

    And have fun!
    Heather
